Jack’s Story

Hello  I am writing with regard to my cat Jack, whom I adopted from you this past spring. I can’t tell you how much fun he is. He is the most loving, playful and funny cat I have ever had. I am sure some of that has to do with the fact that he thinks he is a dog to a certain degree. He meets me at the door when I come home. He follows me everywhere. He plays fetch with his favorite stuffed ball. He usually sleeps at my feet, guarding me… and leaves me presents on the pillow next to him. Be it a feather he has found, or an overlook cotton ball, or a barbie whose hair he has found fascinating. He always leaves me something. When I sit at my computer he sleeps right next to the computer… He’s like my third CHILD.. But it’s so sweet. He is de-clawed in the front and that has led to many funny moments, from his missing the ledge when leaping, or sliding across the floor when he is running… And every time he does something clumsy he tries to act like he meant to do that. Thus is name.. Captain Jack Sparrow.

Thanks for saving him. He is perfect for me and my family.

Bella’s Story

Thank you for rescuing my Bella and keeping her safe until I could adopt her. Here are 2 pics of Bella when she came home and two from within the last month.  She has GROWN!  She is a wonderful ball of energy and has made a great addition to the family.  She got a new sisterly playmate this week.  They are still getting to know each other but will be playing together very soon, I’m sure.

Brunhilde’s Story

Brunhilde was rescued from the animal shelter, along with her 7 brothers and sisters and mom, Ellie.  They were 2 days old when AARF took them in.  Our president cleaned out her downstairs living room to give them a warm and safe place to be with their mom and grow up….and boy did they grow!  Brunhilde has a tough start, and there was a time where we did not think that she was going to make it.  But she was strong and pulled through.  Here is what Brunhilde’s new mom has to say:

We adore our Great Pyreness that we adopted. She is a doll and is getting very HUGE. Her name was Brunhilde but we changed it to Queen. She weighs about 75lbs now. We are so glad we got her from you guys.

Fritz’s Story

Thank you so much AARF! I adopted my cat Fritz about 2 years ago.  He is a sweetie and is the best cat that I could ever ask for.  My parents and I absolutely adore him.  So does our chocolate lab, Brandy.  Fritz and Brandy get along very well and love to play together.  Fritz is spoiled rotten and is a major purr ball.  He loves to curl up on someones lap and sleep.  He comes up to anyone and lets them love on him. He is not shy or skittish at all.  He is an amazing animal and I am so grateful to AARF for saving him and giving him to me.

Cinnamon’s Story

Cinnamon was found tied out to a tree.  A citizen had requested from the owner that she turn her over.  Luckily, she agreed.  Cinnamon was our first heartworm positive dog.  It broke our hearts, but we prayed that she would overcome it.  Thankfully, she did just that!  This is what her new family has to say about her:

Here is a pic of Cinnamon with housemate, Toby. We are delighted Cinnamon has found a home with us.  She definitely is a very loving, warm dog and loves to sit in our laps. She is such a joy and so loveable.  Am amazed how well she took to us.  Loves to sleep in our bed and gives lots of kisses.  Had her groomed Sat. and she did very well.  Thank you again for letting us adopt her.  She lights up our lives.

Destiny’s Story

Destiny came to us after being found in the middle of the road near Hilham.  Our director happened to be in the area when she got the call, and made a visit to see her.  This couple was coming home and saw her little eyes just glowing in the night.  The wife jumped out of the car and picked her up, knowing she could not leave her out there all alone.  Destiny was adopted to a Northern family and was transported via P.E.T.S. (www.petsllc.org).  Here is what Destiny’s family has to say about her:

Just wanted to send you updated pictures of Destiny.  She is settling in quite nicely and loves to run around with the kids.  She is a joy to have.  Thanks for bringing her home to us.

Ruby’s Story

Ruby came to us from a commercial breeding facility – and she is by far one of the most memorable rescues we have done.  Whoever had her really did take good care of her.  She was WELL overweight, she had a VERY personable demeaner about her, and she walked into her foster home and made herself comfortable – right on her foster “brother”s lap!  This 76lb dog weighed about as much as he did!!!  Ruby has about the best personality we have seen on a dog and was a pleasure to take care of.  When Patti contacted AARF and wondered how we could move this dog from TN to NJ, we explained that we move animals all the time up north through P.E.T.S. (www.petsllc.org).  Within a week, Ruby was home in New Jersey living the good life with her brand NEW brothers and sisters!!!  Here is what Ruby’s new family has to say about her:

Ruby is doing well!  The toilet training is also doing well-she seems to now follow her brother & sister’s schedule! Yay! Of course we have all of them on a certain schedule.  The sleeping has also been taken care of & she seems to be fitting in even better!  It’s as if she has lived here longer than she has.  Enjoy her pictures.  Juliana (my 11 yr. old) & Ruby were relaxing on the sofa in the Family Room when Tonka Joe had to see what was going on.  He’s in one of the pictures.  Ruby says hi!

Betty Lou’s Story

Hello,
I adopted “betty lou”, now named “akira-lee” this summer. I just thought i’d write you to give you an update on how she’s doing.

well, she’s changed a lot, her coat is getting much longer and more gray in color! she’s so funny, she’s growing a beard. Her little face is so comical, she’s got one ear that flops over and one that stands up straight and the cutest little underbite. She’s very happy in her new home, she’s got the run of the house and is considered very much part of the family. My parents call themselves her Nanny and Grampy/bid daddy. The family has even bought her a christmas stocking to hang up on the mantel with everyone else’s and everyone’s buying her a gift. she’s the baby of the family. Her first birthday is coming up on Feb. 7 and we are planning a BIG party! All of her (my) close friends and family will be coming. She’s getting ready to start attending doggy day care very soon. I think she will love it because she adores the people there as they are her groomers as well. Shortly after adopting her, we had to make the move from tennessee back up to my home town in Maine due to unexpected issues. She made the transition great! We lived on a lake with my parents for a little while and she loved having free run of the yard! She also enjoys the boat rides my step father takes her on. (he bought her a special little life jacket!) Overall, she’s very happy and very very loved. I want to thank you for letting her become a part of our family! She really is my baby, I love her with all of my heart and I know that she feels the same for me. So thank you again, for both of us, my family, my friends and everyone who her life has touched! (The town loves to see her at parades and events, they love her ears!)
A few new pictures of her are attached and I hope you enjoy them.
Thank you so much again,
-Alaina and Akira-Lee
