Adoption Process
How It Works
We start by accepting an animal into the A.A.R.F. Program. The animal goes through a temperament test to determine eligibility. If the animal passes the test, they are accepted into the program and is either taken immediately or put on a waiting list. The animal is immediately treated with Revolution for fleas/ticks/ear mites/mange and heartworm prevention (can be used on cats as well!). They are de-wormed as a precaution, and treated for tapeworm if signs appear. The animal receives their first round of vaccinations, and is vaccinated as required, during their stay in our program. We also provide veterinary care for any other illness that appears while they are with us. The animal gets either a heartworm test, or Feline Leukemia/FIV combo test before allowing to socialize with other animals (we provide you with proof of a negative test at the time of adoption). They all receive a rabies shot, assuming they are old enough to receive one, a full veterinary check-up, and are spayed or neutered before they leave our program. Most animals are always tested around other dogs, other cats, and children if possible. This allows our volunteers to match you with the right animal for your situation.
A.A.R.F. REQUIRES THAT ALL ANIMALS MUST BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED BEFORE GOING TO THEIR FOREVER HOME – THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS RULE.
We screen potential adopters, asking a series of questions in our Adoption Application, and require that a contract be signed by both parties.
Our adoption donations vary per pet. Some pets require extra funds for dental surgeries, intensive grooming and other health issues. Please ask a volunteer about the adoption cost of the animal that you are interested in.
