The sudden passing of San Francisco Bay Area based guitarist and animal lover, Dave Romero, from a brain aneurism was a tragic loss. As gifted and talented as he was loved by all, his gentle, caring nature was none more evident than in his unbounded compassion for animals, especially those sick, injured or in need of a forever home.
Friends and the local music community were quick to assemble fund raising and benefit concerts in an effort to offset the cost of a memorial as well as charitable contributions toward the animal causes that Dave so believed in. AARF has received a gift of $1,500.00 from these proceeds to honor the legacy of Dave’s commitment to the welfare and well-being of ALL animals.
Dave Romero’s loving spirit lives on in the hearts of all who have been touched by his life… both two and four legged.
A.A.R.F. is so grateful to be able to help so many animals in Dave’s memory! This has helped sponsor multiple emergency surgeries, much needed supplies and more for the pets in our care.

We have a major crisis happening here in Cumberland County, TN and have about 48 hours to react. The shelter is closed on Wednesdays but we will help coordinate rescue pulls.
The Cumberland County Animal Shelter employees are all out due to injury and / or illness. The shelter is understaffed and depending on volunteers.
The County is coming in to take control and have determined that there are too many dogs and will euthanize nearly 50% of what is currently there. According to the volunteer coordinator, 75% of the 100 plus animals there are adoptable.
This shelter receives very little traffic and until recently very little support.
We have 48 hours to save the lives of 50 dogs…and we need help. If you would kindly forward to anyone who can assist, these animals would be forever grateful. As we all know, this is no one’s fault but the irresponsible pet owners… and the county is just looking out for the safety and wellbeing of all of the volunteers now. We are in the process of working on an adoption center for this county to have a place to transfer these animals in the future.

Melody Smith, Social Studies teacher at Algood Middle School, coordinated a service learning grant to use towards helping homeless animals right here in the Upper Cumberland. Melody and a group of 6th grade students arrived today at Petco and purchased $500 worth of merchandise to help A.A.R.F. efforts to house, feed and rehabilitate homeless animals. While Melody and A.A.R.F. director, Jennifer Farley shopped for supplies, the young students volunteered their time socializing, walking and playing with the dogs currently available for adoption. The girls also created a beautiful poster board for A.A.R.F. to use at events. A.A.R.F. Thanks Melody and the students for thinking of A.A.R.F. and the homeless animals.
Purchases include new pet huts, cat litter, cat food, much needed medications, puppy pens, beds, etc. All supplies were purchased here locally at PETCO!

This is Raider (Formerly known as Nutters) who was abandoned at PETCO on Monday October 4. Luckily we were able to find a foster home for him and he’s safe! We wouldn’t be able to help without our wonderful foster volunteers and donor.
This sweet puppy has a sad past, but a great future ahead of him. We got an urgent call from the Cookeville PETCO store; bright and early one Monday morning, someone had driven up and dropped off this puppy in front of the store. They drove off, leaving the puppy (in a tiny cat carrier) with a note. ‘I’m a lab / chihuahua mix. My family had to move and couldn’t take me. Please find me a good home.’ Of course we had to take him in… he’s been treated for fleas, ticks and worms and will soon be neutered and up to date on shots. His foster mom says he’s a snuggle bug! The whole first day he was in foster care, he whined and looked for his family who had left him. Now he’s adjusting well to foster care, knows how to Sit and also appears to be house trained. He would be best with a family who is home a lot, as he prefers to hang out with people. He’s about 4 and a half months old and will be ready to go home with you soon.
